It is now May, and the end of the first full season at the greenhouse in Frövi is approaching. Since August 2024, the greenhouse has produced and delivered tomatoes to Swedish retailers every week. Since October, the facility has been the only Swedish supplier of tomatoes, thereby clearly demonstrating its value – especially during the coldest period
The season has offered many learnings and ongoing optimisations, including upskilling of staff to ensure optimal plant care and growth. The insights we have gained will be valuable for the upcoming season
Alongside operational improvements, we have since November 2024 been working on a new hybrid model, allowing for both external operators and in-house operations. This flexibility is an important part of the fund’s long-term strategy. It enables us to ensure continuity, even in cases where an external operator is unable or unwilling to continue after a season
In early spring 2025, the exact situation we had prepared for occurred – though we had originally expected to apply this model to future greenhouses. We have maintained a close and constructive dialogue with the external operator and were hopeful for a solution for the next season, but this ultimately proved unfeasible. Internal operation therefore became the obvious solution, and we have already secured the necessary expertise to deploy an operator owned by Regenergy Frövi AB
The majority of the currently locally employed staff are expected to continue in the new setup. There are many dedicated employees at the greenhouse who look forward to the next season, and this helps us retain and build on the experience we have gained during the first season
The season will conclude as planned at the end of May, when all plants will be removed. In June, the greenhouse will be emptied and cleaned, and scheduled maintenance and adjustments will be carried out. The new season will begin during the summer, enabling us to once again deliver freshly produced Swedish tomatoes in the coming season.
